In Memoriam of Dick Allis (1940 - 2025)
“I first met Dick a number of years ago when I was on the board of Square Foot Ministry. Dick and another person came to our board meeting to present us with our first-ever grant check which was from CLT. For a small nonprofit struggling to figure out how we would pay for our next load of 2x4s, or boxes of nails, that grant was like manna from heaven, and Dick's presence there made it all the more special.
When I started volunteering at CLT in early 2023, I got to witness first-hand Dick's incredible dedication to the electronics and bike program as well as other areas. Even up until a few months ago, Dick was still coming in although he was clearly feeling poorly. He was just that committed to CLT and its mission. A tremendous man with an incredible heart for service.”
-Jeff Williams, CLT Board Member and Former Eligible Nonprofit Partner
“Dick recruited me in 2011. I knew him from flying with Dick and eventually, he encouraged me to volunteer. I rejected his offer several times, but he was persistent and I eventually, gave in. I began volunteering for 3.5 hours a week and now work 12 hours a week. I like to say I’m going to my playground because it feels like I’m playing when I volunteer. I truly thank him for pushing me to volunteer because of the pleasure it brings me to be involved in such a fantastic organization.”
-Bill Stroud, CLT Volunteer
“It's hard to believe he’s gone. His curious laughter, unwavering optimism, and genuine kindness were a constant source of light in our volunteer work sessions. I'll never forget our time spent on the CLT board of directors or the numerous times he provided advice or lifted my spirits with thoughtful words and unwavering support. His ample desire to help others, especially those suffering with financial hardships was unmatched.
He had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued, and his kindness and presence will be deeply missed. Though our time together is over, the memories we made will be cherished forever. Rest in peace, my friend. You will always hold a special place in the hearts of many throughout the community for your many years of generosity.”
